I'm the daughter of a contractor. I grew up with the smell of soft sawdust and the sound of power tools. Seeing the care my father put into his work gave me a deep respect for people who create with their hands. So when I had the opportunity to buy a CUSTOM surfboard from Jason at Naza Surf (which I'm picking up this week!!! EEEP!!), I knew I had to photograph the process. Jason cares so much about every board he shapes, and using his knowledge of the ocean and people, he meticulously handcrafts each one.
As talented as he is in the world of surfing (he is also an amazing surfer and teacher), his family and walk with God always come first. This sweet bunch just glows and totally embodies the Aloha spirit! I can't wait to photograph all 8 of them once the weather warms up. In the meantime, I'll be staring at my phone waiting for the text message that it's time to pick up MY OWN BOARD!! And no, I'm not excited. ;)
